Program of Support to Young Researchers

October 5th, 1999

The Tangier American Legation Musuem (TALM) donated to King Abdul-Aziz Foundation an impressive collection of books and journals (562 titles) that were part of the private library of the American anthropologist David Hart who actually had donated them previously to the said museum:

December 18th, 1999

A delegation of 15 Finnish MPs accompanied by Mrs. Kristi Westphalen, Consul of Finland in Casablanca, visited the Foundation. It was the occasion for the MPs to be informed on different aspects of the activities of this institution in the fields of documentation, information and culture.

January 15th, 2000

The Constitutive General Assembly of the Association of the Friends of the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco was held in the Foundation premises where the members of its Executive Board were elected.
Mr. Abdou Filali-Ansary was also elected President of the said association.

January ‏29th-30th, 2000

The House of Poetry in Morocco "Bayt Achiir" organized an international colloquium on Modernity of Moroccan Poetry in the XXth Century; at the premises of the Foundation.

February 10th, 2000

The directors of all the French cultural centers in Morocco visited the Foundation. They were informed about the nature of the documentary collection of the library, the services offered  and the computer-based tools provided to researchers.

March, 2000

The Arab Manuscript Institute, connected to the ALESCO and having its headquarters in Cairo, called to the attention of all centers and libraries in the Arab World to help in the collection of data on the different entities dealing with manuscripts in order to prepare a directory, as exhaustive as possible, on  libraries and centers in charge of manuscripts in the Arab World.

March 3rd, 2000

Organization at the Foundation's headquarters of the second meeting of the Executive Board of the AABN and a working lunch with the Board's members and people in charge of the National Library of France, Mrs. Germanaud and Mrs. Chevalier in particular.

March 10th, 2000

The latest publication of the Foundation, For an Alternative Approach of the Analysis of Development, was presented to the press during a debate lunch at the Foundation's headquarters.

April 14th, 2000

A delegation from Majliss Achoura of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led by His Excellency Cheikh Mohamed Ibn Ibrahim Ibn Jabir, Chairman of the Council, visited the Foundation. The delegation visited the library and consulted the databanks and the Foundation's Website.
A working meeting was then held at the conference room. The Director of the Foundation presented to the delegation's members the course of the Foundation since its inauguration by the person who built it and now finances it, his highness the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz. He also informed the members of the delegation of the different services provided to researchers in a variety of disciplines. His excellency the Chairman of the Council then expressed how much impressed he was by this cultural and intellectual achievement and paid tribute to His Highness the Crown Prince for everything he has done for the welfare of the country and for that of the Arab and Muslim Umma.
It was at last decided to maintain the relationships between the Majliss and the Foundation in order to allow the members of the former to benefit from the Foundation services in terms of documentation and information, particularly with regard to Maghrebian studies.

May 11th, 2000

Presentation to the press of a series of books on "Representations of the Mediterranean": "Ten Books for Ten Countries". "This is the result of the work of ten researchers and ten writers from ten European and Mediterranean countries…"
These books are the product of a research program that began in February, 1998 with a seminar held at King Abdul-Aziz Foundation.
The publications are put together in a box published by Maisonneuve & Larose, May, 2000, under the direction of Thierry FABRE and Robert ILBERT.

Organization of a seminar at the headquarters of The Information Sciences School initiated by the RAMEAU cooperative network on indexation issues.
The following institutions participated at the seminar:

September 20th - 23rd, 2000

Organization of the 2nd International Forum on Poetry by the House of Poetry in Morocco, Casablanca. The Foundation hosted a colloquium entitled: "The Presence of Poetry".

November 10th, 2000

The Foundation's headquarters hosted the first major meeting of research centers in the Maghreb. More than twenty centers and institutions from Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia participated. The different centers presented on this occasion their activities and action programs. It was also the occasion to reflect on the methods and modalities likely to promote a better flow of information between centers, on the appropriate forms to establish joint research programs and on the necessary continuity of mutual cooperation between the different research centers in the Maghreb.

November 11th,  2000

Organization at the Foundation's headquarters  of the Constitutive General Assemby of the Maghrebian Circle of Studies, Research and Publications. After discussion, the Constitutive General Assembly approved the statutes of the center and the list of the thirteen members of the Executive Board proposed by the Preparatory Committee.

November 18th - 25th, 2000

The organization of the Moroccan Cultural Week in Riyad, Saudi Arabia.
This event included:

- A book fair: "One Decade of Literary Writing 1990 - 2000"
- A Round table on: "Religious, Cultural and Social Relations between Saudi Arabia and Morocco throughout History"
-  Colloquium on "Modern Moroccan Historical Research"
- A round table on: "Reality and Changes of Literary Writing in Morocco".
