Day One: Proceedings of the International Conference
“Continuity and Change in the Mediterranean: Migration Shifts”, opened on Sunday afternoon, 1 June 2025, at the King Abdul-Aziz Al Saoud Foundation in Casablanca, in partnership with Emory University and Arizona State University. During the opening session, the three co-organisers — Mohamed El Ferrane, Chouki El Hamel and Sam Cherribi — delivered keynote reflections on the Mediterranean as a space of knowledge, mobility and intercultural dialogue. Professor Barbara Krauthamer also gave a talk on the intersection of history, identity, and liberal arts education.
The day continued with a special panel on women, education, and migration, moderated by Nezha Alaoui and bringing together prominent figures from academia, finance, and social leadership. The evening concluded with a recognition ceremony co-hosted by Women CHOICE and the A.D. King Foundation, which honoured individuals committed to civil rights, art, and social justice.
