Death of Jalila Sbaï

Jalila Sbaï helds a diploma in Arabic and another in international relations (National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations, Paris). She defended a doctoral thesis in Sociology on the theme « the Muslim policy of Robert Montagne: 1911-1654 » at l’Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes- Paris (Practical School of Higher Studies).
Her book entitled The Muslim Policy of France was the subject of another doctoral thesis prepared under the supervision of Henry Laurens.
She lectured at INALCO and she was associate researcher at the chair of contemporary history of the Arab world at Collège de France from 2017 until her death in early October 2020.
She published numerous scientific works, namely:
- La politique musulmane de la France. Un projet chrétien pour l’islam ? (1911-1954), CNRS Editions, Paris, 2018, 392 pages.
- Histoire de l’islam et des musulmans en France, (à paraître chez Perrin fin 2019 en vertu du contrat signé)
- Histoire universelle, « civilisations » et « empires », Régis Debray, Henry Laurens et Jalila Sbaï (dir.), à paraître chez Gallimard.
